Popcorn Cupcakes

Eight years ago we were blessed with our first born daughter.  We are so lucky to have such a sweet and smart little girl.  Of course she's not so young anymore!  Every year I wonder where the time has gone.  Happy Birthday sweet girl!

So, Emma wanted to bring cupcakes in to school to share with her class.  Her classroom is decorated with a Big Top Circus theme.  We decided to go along those lines and make popcorn cupcakes!  I was inspired by cupcakes I saw on the Family Fun Magazine site.

You will need cupcakes, white frosting, mini marshmallows, and yellow food coloring.  These cupcakes don't take a lot of technical skill, but they do take some time.  Emma was a great help to me with all of the prep work.

Begin by cutting A Lot of mini marshmallows in half.  You will use three halves to make your popcorn kernels.

Press three of the halves together, using the inside sticky parts to make them stay together.

After you have made quite a few kernels, you can frost your cupcakes with any white colored frosting.  Before the frosting dries, stick your kernels onto the cupcake.  Even if your kernels aren't sticking to each other perfectly, the frosting will help keep them together.

Next put a small amount of water in a little cup and add two drops of yellow food coloring.  Using a small decorating brush, paint a small amount of "butter" onto each kernel.  Do not cover each kernel.  You just want to give it some dimension.  These are great for a movie or circus themed party.  The kids will love their "popcorn"!
